Azure Dynamics Balance Hybrid Electric

AZD has developed the Balance Hybrid Electric drive system for Ford's E450 Cutaway and Strip Chassis trucks.
The Balance™ hybrid electric drive system manages the conventional 5.4 litre Triton gasoline engine and the 5-speed automatic TorqShift transmission to produce a cleaner, more fuel efficient vehicle for your business needs. The hybrid features electric-launch assist, engine-off at idle and regenerative braking which combine to improve fuel economy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
AZD has also developed a commercially available series hybrid electric CitiBus using the HD Senator bus body manufactured by Supreme Corporation's StarTrans Bus Division for paratransit and shuttle bus customers. The CitiBus is the clean, fuel efficient alternative to conventional shuttle buses.
The CitiBus is an environmentally responsible solution that reduces fuel consumption and harmful emissions.
Engine operation is optimized, and regardless of whether the engine is on or off, the hybrid system satisfies all of the bus's operational power needs. Driver and passenger safety and comfort is therefore assured. And more, the bus operation is extremely quiet thereby providing an improved environment for people inside and outside the bus.
The CitiBus has completed the Altoona 200,000 mile, seven-year test and meets the requirements for the Buy America and FTA funding programs.
AZD’s Low Emission Electric Power (LEEP) refers to all systems whereby clean electric power is generated off the vehicles’ power train to supply a range of auxiliary systems and export power applications.
The LEEP system delivers improvements in fuel utilization and emission levels by optimizing the energy management between the engine and an energy storage system and can be plugged into the grid for off-duty charging.
The LEEP system has a wide range of applications including refrigeration, aerial lift and a field of others.
